ACGME Competencies

I. Patient Care

  • Demonstrate diagnostic competence and clinical interpretive skills for CT-TM consultative services.
  • Apply patient-focused and cost-effective care within a specific healthcare context.

II. Medical Knowledge

  • Demonstrate knowledge of current and evolving biomedical and clinical sciences in the CT-TM field.
  • Utilize analytical and problem-solving skills to advance knowledge, discover or develop novel applications to existing translational or clinical problems.

III. Practice based learning and improvement

  • Evaluate current diagnostic and consultative practices.
  • Assess compliance with regulatory guidelines and understand the standard of care in laboratory testing and blood component support algorithms.
  • Improve patient care practices by using evidence from scientific studies and applying research and statistical methods.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop new policies and procedures, or change existing policies and procedures, based on a review of the literature or issuance of new guidelines by regulatory agencies.

IV. Interpersonal and communication skills

  • Develop listening skills and communicate effectively with fellows, residents, medical students, faculty, providers and research personnel.
  • Develop good interpersonal skills for interacting with other health care professionals including nursing and clinical personnel in patient care units, and laboratory personnel.
